About Fall of the Samurai
As the Daimyo of one of 19th Century Japan’s most reputable Imperialist or Shogunate clans your task on the campaign map is to grow your clan’s powerbase and ensure the overall victory of your chosen faction in the Boshin War, or will you claim dominion over Japan and found the Ezo Republic? Grow the power and wealth of your imfamous clan as you plot your march towards victory in either the name of yourself, the Imperialists, or the Shogunate.
Depending on whose cause you decide to support, your enemies will be many as the other clans jostle for power switching allegiances between the Imperial and Shogunate factions as it suits. Wage bloody wars against other clans, emerge victorious in countless bloody battles on land and sea, engage in diplomacy, unlock numerous technological advancements, recruit several different kinds of agents in to your service, and capture the two centers of power in Japan – the cities of Kyoto and Edo.
On the path to victory you will fight with and against many kinds of warriors on land and sea, from the traditional Samurai armies of the Shogunate supporting clans to the modernised gunpowder armies of the Imperialist supporting clans. Jostle diplomatic and factional allegiances while halting or beginning the tumultuous process of modernisation within Japan. Will you support the Imperialist or Shogunate faction when tensions boil over in to a state of total war? Or will you seek to claim your own dominion over Japan as the Ezo Republic? Now is your opportunity to decide who shall rise out of the turmoil of the Boshn War to claim dominance over 19th Century Japan!
Dramatic 19th century Japan setting
Based on the backdrop of the Boshin War period, the new campaign starts in 1864, a time of growing resentment against Western colonial power and influence. As Japan begins to modernise and industrialise, the inevitable social and economic changes lead to increasingly militant nationalism and antipathy towards the Shogunate.
