Started playing this game again and wow. I forgot how good it was. The campaign AI is fantastic, the battle AI is realistic. Playing as the Shimazu, i took the Ito province that borders mine and began to prepare a proper army in it. I shifted most of my units from my capital to the new invasion force, then an Ito army came out from behind the mountains. I managed to fight and destroy a much superior army and save my capital. I then mounted an invasion and eliminated the Itos. I am 3-4 years in and loving it already.. However money is a constant problem but is easing due to my occupation of a trade spot, and the trade between my provinces. I will be improving my infrastructure a bit before i move on with aims to conquer my starting Island..

Ah the joys of rediscovering Total War, or rather playing it after a bit of a break. Good to hear you are off to a good start with the Shimazu in your campaign. Money may only get tighter later on, considering the financial burden maintain a large army, and possibly navy, and Realm Divide brings. It is always a sound idea to try and strengthen your internal economy so that the later loss of trade doesn't bite your coffers quite so hard.

Hi there, Awesome Eagle.
I was googling some guides for Shogun 2. I found this website and your topic caught my eye since I noticed that we started to play again practically at the same time. I registered and here's my reply:

After I read about the new patch (4-July) I was compelled to re-install Shogun 2. I played for two months after it's release and stopped (had no time and "overplayed").
Since for last month (June 2012) I became less busy, so I decided to do gameZ again.
I was wondering about Shogun 2 (I don't own the DLCs). I was surprised to find the big amount of updates (the updates are almost twice as heavy as the game when installed!!!) and saw the announcement of Rome 2 ... I realized I just had to return to my beloved Total War series
I started my Hattori Campaign on 6th June (same time as you Awesome Eagle), but this time I took a different approach. I'm playing a Hardcore Roleplay style game
- Don't load games for my advantages
- Keep a diary (excel) of my Clan's actions - Generals/Agents movements and actions; every visible clan's diplomatic/war/province situations; named every unit (i.e. the first Yari Ashigaru recruited in Iga are named "Yari Ashigaru /Iga1", the next one "Yari Ashigaru /Iga2") to see in which battles they took part and how their exp grows; Schemes (destroyed two clans without any military force); Plans; Ideas; etc)
- One real-life day equals one in-game year (4turns), except on weekends where one real-life day equals two in-game years (8turns).
- Roleplay with provinces (by constructing the right buildings), Generals (by action as their skills and attributes dictate), Agents (have a strict title that they must follow, for example "Ninja Assassin", "Monk Instigator", "Metsuke Apprehender", etc)
- Log the stats of every single battle (the units name, rank => rank gained, deployed, lost, kills, remains and screenshots).
- Think of every man as if it's a real person. A person with a life, a family, habits, goals and dreams. This idea reduced drastically my casualty count (even have some battles without loses). Also experience grief when they die ...
- Never ever attack with my General in battle (except in emergency circumstances).

This Hardcore Roleplay method I designed for myself, so, even though I don't have time to play, I do entertain myself to the highest while playing for a short time every day.
Since I have a whole day to play 4 turns (8 turns at the weekends) I do plan my actions really carefully. If you want, I can send you the excel sheet for a lookie

I love the series, I love this game and I love the way I'm playing it now. I will play like this until Rome 2.

Edit and P.S.:
If you want, we could meet up on the weekends and play co-op

Wow, now that is quite some dedication there Burn86, and I congratulate you on sticking to such a feat.

Also, Welcome!

That is a great idea Burn86. I might restart my Ikko-Ikki campaign in such a manner. Any place you can put such an excel sheet on the net somewhere so others can take a look at that style? That would be great as a prep for an AAR after the campaign, win or lose.

Sounds like great fun to me!
