A Work Ethic
A work ethic
A simple enough phrase
Something I dearly lack
As I struggle to form cohesively
The words to describe my ever present failure.
An angel rolled along
And promised to help whatever way she could
Tired and bored I said of course
A good work ethic is what I lacked
A good work ethic is what she gave.
Yet I managed to push her away
The angel who ventured to help
A truly wicked thing indeed.
Reaching out once again
She implored her knowledge unto me
Step by step she explained
Her wonderful brilliant plan in spades
Step 1: Self esteem
With confidence one can soar the skies
An alter ego she discovered in me
That trickling piece of me that hides
Her remarkable eyes sought it out
For she believed in me as friends should do.
Step 2: Motivation
Properly motivated one can achieve wonders.
With patience and kindness she talked with me
Giving me various examples to motivate me
A work ethic I must achieve
Till finally she begged that I think of her
When truly I seek motivation.
Step 3: Experience
One must have experience for anything in life
Telling me the very last step
I laughed and brayed like a horse
For truly I already knew what it was
Experience shall be the norm
Of all who want to learn
A clever way to achieve a work ethic.
Yet there was something missing in all
The last and only step
The one that truly mattered most
What exactly was missing I pondered
Step 4: Have fun
Without proper enjoyment one work becomes filled with boredom.
The angel had forgotten this last step
Yet she was glad to hear of it
As was I, remarkably so
A work ethic I had achieved.
For this I thank the angel for
Because her wise words helped me get
A work ethic of my own.
