I am playing as Shimazu (out of 3 attempts, I am still trying to complete a successful campaign, stupid realm divide). Anyways, as always, I was immediately plunged into a bitter war against Otomo. We have gone back and forth until I mustered the funds and army (complete with cannons and musketry) to take his last settlement.

Problem is, it has been our little war for awhile. Its 1570 and I see that the Ikko Ikki have basically taken everybody out. 6 other clans remain, and some of those are down to one settlement only.

Are Ikko Ikki always this successful in every game?

No, actually, they normally get owned in the very start of the game, but come back every once in a while due to the Ikko faith still being present. It's a pretty rare thing for that to happen, normally it's the Oda clan that take everybody over. It's like the Shimazu actually beating the Ito. It normally never happens.

Hmm....how interesting that it changes from game to game. For me, the Ikko Ikki and the Hattori are both very large. I wish I could get them to go to war with each other.

Not for me. Normally, the Oda clan take over everything, and to be honest, if the Ikko survives, it's a massive war between the Oda and Ikko. The hatorri for me never win anything.

That's ridiculous. For me it's the Asai clan; the Oda get wiped out easily. The Ikko-Ikki are often wiped out eventually.

For myself, the Ito always become a superpower in the south (West, by the map orientation) and become Chistian, and thew Oda become the Northern powers (Eastern, by map orientation), and the Takeda do put up a fight, along with the Uesegi, but normally the Oda and the Ito become the superpowers. You guys are hilarious, I've never seen those clans become large, ever xD

Seems like it differs depending on how you twist the campaign map.

im playing as the Mori now... in my campaign, my allies, the kikkawa have about 8 regions. the major clans are Mori(me), Kikkawa(allies), the Hattori, and Uesegi, also my allies. most of the others nations are destroy, except a few, but they only hold average of 1-2 regions.

actually the more i play, it changes... the hattori usually have some staying power. the takeda have also been doing very well in some of my campaigns. and the hojo have sprung up to hold 14 regions in one campaign.

Interesting how different people can have different experiences with the AI and which clans are often the dominant ones in the campaign. Not to mention that sometimes things can change depending on which Clan you are playing, I've seen different clans dominate an area depending on which clan I play as. Sometimes I swear some copies of the game must have come with a different AI since 'my AI' react's differently compared to my 'friend's AI' when we've taken turns to be host in co-op campaigns.

All this is without even taking player actions in to account too. When my friend played the Hattori the Ikko-Ikki gave him all hell on Earth, yet when I played as the Hattori in our co-op campaign the Ikko-Ikki were decidedly cautious about going to war with me. It is feasible that the AI could be reacting differently to different human players due to differences in their diplomatic, economic and military policies. I know I certainly play a different kind of style compared some of the other people I played co-op campaigns with.

Actually yeah I've seen the Ikko Ikki become huge quite often, the times when they don't is when I'm playing a clan quite close to them =P

The Ikko were my biggest adversary in my Shimazu campaign so far. Only by having a good alliance with the Mori and pushing them at two angles were they driven back. They are almost down to nothing by 1572, but it took a lot of good fighting to get them there.

Interesting how it plays out, it makes it more unpredictable. Here's my 2 cents worth.

Im new at Shogun2 and am playing my 1st campaign with the Shimazu this week.

I took out the Ito fairly quickly and the Sagara have been at peace then were taken out by the Mori and its the Mori that have been my sole bitter enemies through most of the campaign, pressing me relentlessly until the Hoto eliminated them.

The Mori have taught me defense and my troops gained much experience fighting them but I was never able to take over the entire island of Kyushu

Now the Hoto who have up till now been peaceful have declared war and have pushed me back to two my two remaining provinces, Satsuma and Osumi and have yet to root me out, but Hoto has claimed the Shogunate and their Power is "Terrible" I fear the end is near even though my power is "Strong" lol,

My economy does not support expansion and holding onto these two provinces is all I can do. I don't have any resources, stone, iron or wood, and cannot upgrade to the upper tiers.

Time is running out and I figured what the hell, and boldly started pushing back trying to claim all of Kyushu before the end, hoping to find resources but its leaving Satsuma and Osumi well nigh undefended.

I will restart the campaign now that I have more experience with the mechanics. I played Rome TW and Mediaval TW2 and its obvious I will have to rethink my tactics.

I love the Arts tree. Its great for deciding your clan's destiny.
