The title speaks for itself. It's been less than a week, but what have you learned? Maybe this could become the FAQ thread, at some point; but for now, it's just an opportunity to trawl for the collective knowledge of the forum. After all, more than one head is better than one head (unless the heads are on the same body, which I am given to understand creates some problems).
One thing I've found, though I hesitate to call it an exploit, is to always keep one unit of cavalry (that is not a general or family member) in each castle town. When defending a castle with inadequate forces, you can send a unit of cavalry near the enemy forces and they will always peel off a couple of units to chase your cavalry. Really, they have to, which is why I wouldn't call it an exploit. If they allow your cavalry to wander where it pleases, you can easily launch flanking attacks against any isolated or missile units. However, when they send those forces to chase, they are not climbing your walls. It helps to spread out the assaulting forces; so you have to defend the walls from fewer units at any one time, and that can make the difference between winning and losing. Also, if the attackers have no cavalry, you can use yours to charge their archers and quickly retreat to disrupt their fire and whittle their numbers. The drawback: you're probably sacrificing your cavalry. Eventually they'll tire or get bogged down in melee (or you forget about them because you're dealing with the fight at the walls).
So there's my lone tip. Now, for a question: Is there a command to have a missile unit fight melee? Sometimes I want my horse archers to charge before they've run out of arrows, and sometimes I want my archers to chase down routers. I can't find a way to make this happen.
