The army lands in Syria and the campaign starts off smoothly. We attacked the small egyption forces several times who retreated without a fight each time. The army then laid seige to Jerusalem.
1 year later. The seige is going well. but we will have to fight. the Egyptions have managd to scrape together an army and are trying to relieve the city.
Marcus sets up on a tall hill 20 mills west of Jerusalem. his army formation is old-fashioned. 2 units of skirmishers in the 1st line. Behind them, 4 cohorts of Princepes, 6 of legionaries in the 3rd line. on the wings are 2 units of light cavalry.
Legions, Legions, Legions, Legions, Legions, Legions,
-----Principes, Principes, Principes, Principes------
------------skirmishers---skirmishers----------------
the battle begins. To strengthen his flanks against the Egyption chariots and cavalry, Marcus orders his men in a shallow V formation. It works well, the 2 waves of egyption horsemen and chariots are slaughtered. Now the egyptions advance with their 4 units of spearmen in a Phalanx. heres were things get a little hairy. The Romans tight battle ranks are muddled up in the attempes to flank the attackers. However, the moves are sucessful and the phalaxes begin to break and run. The battle looks won!
Dont jump to conclusions just yet! Unbeknownst to me, the egyptions managed to slip 2 units of chariots behind my lines. They attack. Battle over. I lost 700 men in 20 seconds
