With about 1200+ men he attacked the small band of 250 followers of the Roman Julii family. Lucious Julius being trapped and not able to run decided to hold his grown over the bridge.
The finally started with the Romans on one side and the Germanic horde on the other. With two experienced (2 bronze chevrons each) units of Hastati the Roman General set up the main defence. Two units of light cavalry supported the force along with the Generals bodyguard unit. The Germans started off with a barrage of arrows from nearby archers and missle units. THis did little damage on the Julius' units. They came with the first wave of attackers being two large (120) units of light infanty warbands. The real fighting began here. THe Hastati even though being outmatched and outnumbered were able to hold there ground. Some of the light cavalry helped by routing and chasing the enemy down. Then 2 units of heavy infantry (axemen) charged forward into the lines. ONe Hastati unit started to waver but a charge of light cavarly eventually routed the other two. FInally the enemy general was annoyed with his losses and launched a daring assault of pikemen, archers, heavy cavalry, light cavalry and h,l infanty against the Romans. The end result was a massacre. All that was seen were Bodies of Countless mercenary and Germanic soldiers on the ground. their general lay dead and the light mercenary cavalry were chasing down the routed units. This was a glorius day for Rome. Over 1100+ units were slain against a mere 50 roman losses.
Just goes to show how much a commander can influence the battle and how much being in a defensive position wins battles. Maybe ill get another battle similar to this one but for right now the Romans Prevailed
LONG LIVE THE JULII
