heres some more of the story, things got bad for me after Macedon just... chose to declar war.
NO reason has ever been stated to the Greek Empire for there ... treachery. All of the great nobles of Greece sent envoys to stop another Great war, from occuring on her ancient soil.
But all that came back were severed heads that were shat upon by the leader of the macedonians himself!
In a Moons day the soldiers of Sparta and Thermon were ready to do there business, and it wasnt taking a shat, it was taking a long spear and jamming it into the face of a macedonian or any enemy that chose to defile the Greek hand of Peace.
The army of Sparta, raised by our faction leader himself Spartacus, lead a valiant march to Corinth, the Wonder city itself. If Greece had control of this once great city again.. the gods would favor them all the more.
Corinth had long been known to be a very rich city and if the Greek empire had a chance to take it.. they had better do it quick.
A spy sent from Spartacus' own guard, let them know of the enemy's inside the city. Few men were left guarding the walls of this great city, Now was the chance.
Spartacus put a siege upon the city of Corinth, and cut off all trade to it. by sea or land.
after a year of this, the enemy finally got a helping hand from a 3 star general of theirs.
And soon we were fighting a battle.
this battle will be remembered for showing the greatest skill of any Greek warrior on the face of this world.
Spartacus, knew this would be a hard fought battle, and to win it without losing all his men would be even harder. He talked with his captains and they all decided on a very closely tied together, Triangle formation.
This formation had never been used in a battle before spartacus' time. He had adopted it knowing that the triangle was the most useful tool and most powerful element in construction. So maybe it would be the same in war? He surely hoped so.
The troops were lined up so that the corners of them overlapped, so that.. no point anywhere in the line was open to attack without a spear pointing its way.
This was the true power of the triangle it only had 3 corners, and at the 3 corners it had a backup line of hoplites in case it broke.
heres a little ... bad picture ill make for you.
the (0) stand for nothing, just place holders.
the (-) stands for hoplites
the G stands for general
the A stands for archer
the P stands for peltast

Hopefully that helps you imagine how it was set up.
every group of hoplites was atliest 4 men thick.
I should have made the Triangle even smaller and more dense but i had to make room for my archers... who played a very key role, in killing off 150 enemy archers by themselves! then killing another 50 or so hoplites in close quarters letting fly the arrows point blank.
So here is how the battle went,
I sat on the highest hill (in an almost flat terrain but it was a hill so it helped a little for my archers)
the enemy slowly walked towards me, came to the point where archers were beginning to fire at moving hoplites etc etc.
The enemy archers moved up and started firing and i fired back, killing them slowly and stopping the massacre of my front line.
The front line took 30 casualties before the enemy archers were put down.
Now came the next problem, enemy cavalry. I didnt know how many there were before the battle but now i did. This was bad, So many cavalry you couldnt count them. THe were running towards the Triange of Power, ready to charge, then they backed away.
and surrounded my triangle... what the hell. they just stood there. But then something happened my archers began firing on the cloest group. The archer that scored the first kill, was Tamicus Sparta, a cousin of the general! This first kill, and the enemy generals little control over his troops, made this fight amazing.
from all 3 directions the enemy cavalry charged.. this was one of the most amazing sights Spartacus had ever seen in his life, literally a thousand cavalry running towards him full charge, he yelled "Hold on for your lives men! You have women to take care of, make sure you go home for them!"
At this the troops let out a loud roar, the enemy's cavalry came ever so closer, and then it happened, They ran right into the lines, Spartacus' men killed hundreds of horses in the first few seconds, then the horses fell back, and then charged again, a Second time, His flanks were beginning to wear thin! Then they all formed up in the front of the triangle and did the last great charge, and it broke through the triangle, His peltasts, were all but dead, already throwing all there spears already, they charged the cavalry while the cavalry charged them, this was the first show of true, courage in this battle!
(Many historians call this the dead's last charge because at this point at the site of battle, there were literally thousand's of skulls of horses and men on the battle field,
and they knew they were dead before the charge began, this truelly showed the outcome of the battle for the horsemen, armor still on them, showing that so many died that the men couldnt even carry away some of the finest bronze, silver, and gold armor made in that time!)
The horses broke right through the front side of the triangle (facing the enemy) and ran right into my generals heavy cavalry guard. The enemy's horses ran right into the generals charge into them. 1 man survived, his horse didnt out of the kindness of his heart, Spartacus let him go free, for he had seen all that he had grown up around, die around him. and he was only 17, not even a true man yet, not even OLD!, how the fates are cruel!
but the battle wasnt over guys, this was only the start, the enemy's general was still on the grounds guiding his own mercenary hoplites towards the triangle which was broken.
Spartacus quickly took the chance and ordered all his troops to line back up, into a small triangle (since he had lost 2 phalanx formations to the enemy !
His entire front was open and the men all quickly moved over, and the archers moved outside of the phalanx to make room, sometimes in war, horrible things have to be done, the archers fired off there last 3 volley's at almost point blank range killing many enemy hoplites and made a valliant charge at the enemy hoplites killing few in the final charge, but helping the Spartan's morale by showing there true courage as Spartans should have!
Spartacus had by the time the enemy hoplite formations came near, fixed his perfect triangle, in just the right time before the enemy's spears hit his troops.
merely a second lay between death and perfection. Spartacus had made an all out run for perfection!
His troops held strong, some of them were Shaken from the cavalry charges but none had run yet, spartacus was thankful for that.
the enemy's lines hit his, and his troops still held strong, the enemy being killed off while his troops stayed and lived.
Then they ran, the enemy ran, then were rallied and came back, and charged the formation.
The smell was terrible for the men, the smell of death all around them, they had fought for 2 days if not more, through all the cavalry charges and infantry charges, they had survived, the men prayed to the gods for giving them the strength. Thanking them so much.
And theres the most amazing battle i have ever played in this game so far.
heres the statistics,
me 800 or so hoplites, then 1 archer squad, then 1 Peltast, then my general.
enemy 2800 troops
enemy had atliest 1200 cavalry, the rest were hoplites and archers.
I didnt know that much about the enemy's army, other than it had 4 cavalry units in it... but it turned out more like 10 cavalry units this was the best battle, i have ever seen, the Ai played better than it usually does.
and before anyone may ask, No I didnt pause or anything on this battle,
it took the entire battle timer to finish.
at every cavalry charge i was jumping for joy, i couldnt believe my lines were holding, even though barely,
and the front of the triangle was completely left open after the cavalry did the final charge, only thing between me and defeat was my general and the archers that were standing there!
talk about... scary, i was pissin myself constantly
