During a defensive siege, the coward AI were standing outside just shooting the defenders, so like an honourable man I went out to meet the foe.
I went out the gate closest to my enemy with my Katana Samurai and a few Yaris. The archers and cavalry left through the back gate, and guess what the AI did? It saw my archers coming out the back so sent its only cavalry, 2 Generals and a Light Cavalry, to try and kill them. They didn't turn back when my Yari Cavalry ran out of the gates and killed them all.
I won, as the whole army was wavering when their Generals died, so to get the most kills in possible I moved my infantry up slowly and absorbed the archer fire, giving my cavalry time to get close then chase them down.
And welcome to the forums!

Did the General actually dismount? I have never seen the AI do that except at the end of a siege when the army has been destroyed.

I recently restarted the game as Chosokabe. I moved some Yari Ashigaru to the right, ready to catch the enemy general as he came down the hill they were stationed on. And to my surprise, the general, on his horses, charged down a hill to my Yari, in the wall formation. He went from 30 body guard units to 15 before I even lost one Yari. After the general routed the rest of the battle was pretty easy.

When it comes to stupid I must say it is the AI's desire to charge my Yari Ashigaru with his generals.
I also find it foolish when a defending AI not only fails to set up on a hillside facing my army when they can they don't even move to occupy it until I'm half way up the other side.
When it comes to naval battles I think the AI is completely crazy when it thinks a small fleet of Japanesse ships can attack a couple NTS on a nice clear day.

Try capturing Kyoto without being provoked by the current shogunate, then defend the fortress,as the geisha guide tells you at the beginning of the game, every other clan will automatically declare war against you to maintain the status quo.
The first time I defended against 3 FULL ARMIES, they crossed the river from 3 sides (Kyotos surrounded all around by a river), proceeded 2 capture all towers & gates on the first tier, then started to climb to the 2nd tier, where i was. Once i routed that army, another full army came, but just stood around without crossing the river.
Best of all, the general would DISMOUNT and try 2 capture the square AFTER all his initial units were routed. Naturally he got slaughtered. FYI, the 2nd army didnt come to help. This happened in normal difficulty, does this happen in the other difficulties?
