So I fought my first and only multiplayer naval battle recently, fielded even mix of medium's and bows with the admiral, a heavy, and two sengoku bunes.

My opponent fielded all siege tower bunes.

I was annihilated. The sengoku bunes, which i assumed would be a counter, couldn't get close before routing, and my heavier bunes couldn't catch them.

Anyone encountered this spam? or have ideas on how to counter it? or how to not perish at sea in general?

I have had very little naval battles so far. Since I encountered a bug that says every single time that I have over spent, even if I only have an admiral. So the only way I could play was to fill my army up untill the ammount I was meant to, then go super quick from the "moddify army" to the click button underneath and set the timer off. Once I enter the battle I only have 1-2 ships. Hopefully this is a minor error they fixed in the patch.

The musket units do a massive amount of morale damage, especially up close. Those Siege towers have a respectable number of crew too, so jumping aboard isn't always the best way to counter them.

I suppose it'd be with the heavier ships?

Unfortunately, its not i managed to take out the biggest type of ship (O Saka Bune?) with 2 siege ships. When the musket balls hit the other ship you can see pieces of the boat fly off so i don't think its just morale damage.

The best counter is the cannon bune (which is almost impossible to kill) because of its extremely long range.

The only way you can stop cannon bunes is to run your bow boats in front of them and set them on fire. They should surrender straight away.
That still leaves the problem of getting your boats in a position to get them though.

I have actually started using this spam myself, just fill my navy with Siege tower bunes. Or at least untill I have access to cannon bunes.

Which leads me to my next issue...

Just got annihilated by cannon bunes. I charged in with a sengoku from upwind, only to realize you can't board the damn things.

Umm, a spammer doesn't mean anything in terms of skill. No matter how good or bad he is, he spammed the same unit. There's no joke, or incorrect labeling...

As Soul said, it doesn't have anything to do with skill nor is it a joke. It was worst in Rome, where people would spam elephants for a joke. It mainly means they do not use tactics, they either use the same unit or they just get all of their units to run into the enemy.

Hey, c'mon guys no need to get heated about it...

I am not one to call someone a spammer, but using Siege Bunes and only Siege Bunes is not a 'legit' tactic, it's an exploit imo, but whatever floats your boat... no pun intended!

Come on, the pun was clearly intended. Hey, but I've caught the drift; so I'll give you leeway on that one. I don't want to take the wind out of your sails. Just don't go overboard and become a loose cannon.

No, no. It's Tom bear everywhere.

Ya didn't do my homework before attempting that tactic. I think you probably have to swarm with bow or bomb or matchlock kobaya's, but you'd need pretty much your whole army to be light ships, and who fields navies like that? Against anything but cannons you'd be screwed.

That's probably a good idea, but those light ships are done for if they get within range of the Siege Towers or Cannon Bunes for that matter. One decent volley and they're finished.
