Shogun 2 Heaven Clan: Cavalry Specialists

As proposed in the earlier thread, we've launched the official Shogun 2 Heaven Clan.

This will enable us to take part in the brand new Clan feature that Creative Assembly have added to the game. Not to mention it'll serve as a meeting place for Forum Parties, Casual Games and eventually the Shogun 2 Heaven Tournaments.

You can see the group page here. Join us!

The Shrine of Bishamonten

Here, in the shrine of the war-god Bishamonten we shall remember Clan campaigns of the past, notable performances of members and of course each Player of the Week is enshrined in each thread below.

- Week 1
- Week 2

Current player of the week:

I love Yari Cavalry, wins me most of my battles by charging into their rear or murdering a poorly defended General during the melee.

Haven't had a lot of luck with the Mangonels though, don't think they're worth the money you pay for them when I could take another unit of Katana/Naginata Samurai or Yari Cavalry.

Quite so, throw them in to wedge formation to increase their charge damage and watch the carnage as you repeatedly cycle charge the enemy to death. Being mobile you can either drag enemy units out of position, hit exposed vulnerable positions in the enemy lines, or all of the above.

A unit or two of Horse Archers doesn't go amiss at times either. Amazing what some people will do at times to chase down these pesky annoyances, despite there being more pressing issues to deal with.

I still haven't got Yari cavalry.. I keep trying but with no success. My 2 last games I lost, and the one before that, I had won but the other guy left even though he had a unit left or something, so no victory for me there...

In my last battle, I managed to kill two of his light cavalry with one of mine. By running out of the trees. Though it didn't work the other side of the field when I surprised a Yari Cavalry. I proably would have won but he took up a defensive position and had better units than me. And he shot my general.

Upgraded Katana's are so deadly... I have a unit with level 4 experience that has maxed melee attack that just cuts through opponents like no other.

For some reason none of my Katanas have become veterans yet. It's mostly Yari Cavalry that does the killing why my Katanas are just a pinning force.

It's interesting how the experience system works. Most of my bow units haven't leveled up yet, although they get most of the kills. My melee units definitely rank up faster then other units, I don't know if it is because they get the received the most damage or if they deal the most.

I have some deadly light cavalry. I have 2 levelled up twice. and another 4 just one. Apart from that I have a load of Yari Ashigaru, that I named "Screaming soldiers" because they always fall to the floor screaming. I have no experienced archers.

I have some pretty awesome Katana and Yari Samurai who've now got 4 Chevrons. I haven't actually spent any of my upgrades on them yet though because I'm cheap like that

I hardly use light cavalry, unless the game is 10000 Koku or more then I get a unit to snatch up whatever strategical points are on the map and act as a decoy so my opponent doesn't expect my 3 or 4 hidden Yari Cavalry regiments.

Works like a charm to present the light cavalry, capturing the structure, as bait. Typically the enemy will send a couple units of his own cavalry across at which point I can eliminate them, ideally without exposing all of my own cavalry, leaving some for the make or break charge once battle is given.

Anyway, I digress; moving this thread to be stickied at the top of the Multiplayer forum.

I've edited this thread slightly. It is to serve as the 'hub' thread of the Shogun 2 Heaven Clan. In the main post we have a brief summary of what we are, including our speciality.

Next up is a new addition; "The Shrine of Bishamonten". For those who don't recognise the name, Bishamonten is the Buddhist god of war. In that part of the main post will be an archive of all our ongoing weekly updates. Of course, the weekly update threads include the names of those who deserve to be mentioned, a brief summary of how the Clan is performing and also names the Player of the Week.

Which brings me on to the other addition to the OP; The current player of the week will be honoured with their name in red for all to see, painted with the blood of their enemies!

Hope ya'll like

This multiplayer / HG clan action is doing quite a good job of tempting me with the game - although a lack of time plus coming to it late probably would mean I'd only contribute to the opponents...
Hopefully you'll all still be interested and playing in the dim and distant future when a Steam sale throws in a low price to finally beat my remaining concerns on the game (e.g. not getting into the atmosphere, a lack of interesting (well, any) mods, not having very much time to play it anyway etc)

The matchmaking (mostly) pits you against people of equal skill level so being late shouldn't be a problem as there's plenty of people who haven't played a lot yet.

It's about to be Easter weekend. Do we have any plans for a forum party anytime soon? There's been very little activity on the site this week; so maybe everyone is out-of-town. Certainly, plenty of people in my office have taken off this week. It's created quite a bit of work for me. Then, I go home, play a couple of MP battles and lose consistently. Finally, when I do win, my opponent drops just before the battle is officially over. (If they drop after all of their units are routing, I should get the win! ) Point is, it's been a frustrating week, and I could use a couple of friendlies.

Party! Yeah! WOOOOOO!!!!

I may be able to go to my friends and use his fast internet connection, but if not I should be getting a new internet-thingy (Modem or something) Which might let me play online. But if I do and your online, I would happily defeat you play against/with you!

No, I suspect you will defeat me. I've come to the conclusion that I suck. I haven't won a single match at 10K funds, at least that counted. (There were two that I won, but my opponent dropped when it was over. grrrr)

I'd wager that if we put together some 3v3 or 4v4 this weekend with us on teams we could win quite a few.

Bast, don't get discouraged. The jump from 5k to 10k is rough, you get a lot more units and find yourself facing people who aren't as inexperienced or outright clueless. It took me a while to get back into the swing of things when the jump to 10k came. I dropped, I think, my first 10 matches after I switched.

It also doesn't help that the matchmaker seems to have gone completely screwy and is favoring the rank 9 vs rank 4 type of situation lately.

I've just got S2TW (I see no reason to switch the order of the name) and joined the S2TWH clan - while there haven't been any posts on this thread there seems to be some activity on the clan. Admittedly it might just be that no clans in our league are at all active given that it seemed that noone had any provinces when I joined in a day ago and now we have 5 whereas none of the other clans have any; but still there must be at least one other active person

So after that introductory waffle - does anyone fancy a bit of a drive on the clan to see what we can do before R2TW comes out?

My first few battles have been won by luck (and people thinking that because they can field gunpowder units (presumably from fall of the samurai) they ought to - and then get mobbed by my peasant horde), it seems quite a jolly game though.

Sounds like a worthy challenge, the Multiplayer Clan does seem to be more active then the actual Heaven. Unless we have totally slumped down a ton of tiers, as of when I last played, we should be roughly around the middle of the global rankings. So I expect our rivals clans to claim some provinces sooner or later. It might be a new season after all, just a guess currently, so we might have got the jump on other clans for now.

I shall schedule some of my weekend towards helping propel the clan up the rankings, assuming I win some battles.

We went up from tier 6 to tier 5, this tier seems to be as peaceful as the last (last I saw we had 8 provinces with 4 days to go) but looking at the maps for the higher tiers it'll get into a proper competition in the next couple of weeks

Blagh, I have had to put a halt to my crusade of horsey-ness due to technically difficulties with my gaming PC. The world shall have a respite from my all cavalry tactics for now and instead fear my blue screens of death.

We're in tier 3 but not really moving anywhere against the more active clans (e.g. the country group for Germany had 18 provinces to our 1 with plenty of others up above us).

It doesn't help that my beginners luck has worn off and now I'm just losing a lot
